  • Twin lights, radial brakes and a new fork.
  • The frame underneath is still the MP frame.
  • Immobiliser trouble is a recorded complaint. No bypass here.

RSV-style

The 2006–2007 RSV-style RS 125: new angular body and radial brakes on the same MP frame, still a Rotax 122.

Years
2006–2007
Factory code
PY0 open, PYA 11 kW
Engine
Rotax 122
Fuel system
Dell'Orto PHBH 28
Ignition
Nippondenso CDI. Catalyst and SLS for Euro 2.
Bodywork
New angular bodywork, twin headlights, a digital dash with a rear-wheel speed sensor, a new fork, radial calipers and braided lines. The frame is the same as the MP.
Power
PY0 21 kW open. PYA 11 kW.
Restricted and open
PYA is the 11 kW bike. PY0 is the open bike. The catalyst and the secondary air system are still there.

Key changes

  • All-new angular bodywork and twin headlights. The frame is still the MP frame.
  • Digital dash driven by a rear-wheel speed sensor, so the old gearbox speedo drive is gone.
  • New fork, radial front calipers and braided brake lines.
  • PY0 is 21 kW. PYA is 11 kW. Euro 2 catalyst and SLS stay.

Common problems

  • Owners report trouble with the factory immobiliser and alarm.
  • Exhaust corrosion.
  • The engine-side faults carry over from the bee-tail: catalyst, CDI dip, powervalve, crank bearings.

Special editions and replicas

Per Hartrusion, as recorded in the research brief, “Replica” means the decal scheme. The mechanical bike is the standard model of that year and code.

The full list, including schemes that are not verified, is on the generations hub.

The 2006 bike looks like a different motorcycle and is not. The brief is clear that the frame is still the MP frame. What changed is the body, the fork, the brakes, the dash and the way the speedo is driven. The engine is still a Rotax 122 with a Dell’Orto PHBH 28 and a Nippondenso CDI, now under Euro 2 with a catalyst and the secondary air system (SLS).

What you can see

Twin headlights and the sharper RSV-style fairing are the kerbside tell. The dash is digital and takes road speed from a sensor at the rear wheel, not from a spinning drive in the engine cases. That matters when you are chasing a jumpy speedo: the bee-tail fault was the drive, and this generation does not use that drive.

The front brake is a radial caliper, and the hoses are braided. Pads and hoses from an axial bee-tail do not belong here. The brief does not give a pad compound or a banjo torque. Both are To verify in the manual. A parts catalogue PDF for the RS 125 2006–2010 is linked from the sources. OEM numbers on this site stay empty until they are copied out of that catalogue, or a later one, for the specific VIN.

PY0 is the open bike at 21 kW. PYA is 11 kW. The decoder on this site treats model code PY and variant A as PYA, and variant 0 as PY0. Year codes for 2006 and 2007 are not in the brief’s table. ISO 3779 would read them as 6 and 7. To verify on a plate before you trust the decoder’s ISO line.

What carries over, and what is new

The engine complaints are the bee-tail’s: a catalyst that chokes the pipe, the CDI dip around 5–6,000 rpm, a sticking powervalve, crank bearings, and an exhaust that corrodes. The new complaint in the brief is the factory immobiliser and alarm. Owners report trouble with it. There is no bypass procedure on this site. If the bike will not start, read the immobiliser as a suspect alongside the ignition, and use the manual for that PY.

The fork is described as new. Seal sizes and oil weight are To verify. Do not assume the bee-tail seal fits.

Liveries

Lorenzo (2007) is verified from Motorcyclespecs. Pista is 2007 in the generation record, without a separate line in the verification table. Spain’s No.48 is filed here and also sits in a 2007–2009 group whose years are To verify.
